The Sir John Templeton Heritage Center of The Union League of Philadelphia is a key element of the League’s comprehensive capital plan, Vision 2000.
A vision for the future
The Vision 2000 plan calls for housing the League’s three foundations—Abraham Lincoln, Youth Work and Scholarship—in a single location in a new facility on the ground floor of the Broad Street building. This new home, The Heritage Center, is designed to allow for more direct public access, exhibition space, offices, and a larger collections storage facility.
Widespread support for the League’s goals
To generate the resources necessary to achieve the goals of Vision 2000, former League president Frank Giordano led a successful fundraising campaign. At this time, the Anniversary Campaign has raised nearly $10 million for the construction of the Heritage Center and the endowment of the three foundations. As a result of these efforts, the Center is now open.
The Center was named in honor of Sir John Templeton, a recipient of the League’s Lincoln Award in 1986 and a longtime friend of the League’s interests. The naming of the center was made possible through the generosity of League members Jack and Pina Templeton, who are active leaders in all of the League’s philanthropic endeavors.
